Charles Richard Creek was born in Sheffield in 1891 (Sheffield Q3-1891 9C:580), son of Richard and Elizabeth Ann CREEK (née CANHAM).
1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Green End, Stretham with his father Richard CREEK [42] born Ely; his mother Elizabeth Ann [39] born Stretham; sisters Ida E [14], Dora A [11], Carrie [7] and Lily [1] and brother Percival [4]. All the children were born in Sheffield. 1911 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at The Laburnmuns, Swaffham Prior with his parents, brother Percival, brother Walter Elwyn [7], born Stretham and cousin William Henry SENNITT [3] born Upware. Charles R Creek married Flora WALKER [8-3-1889] (Newmarket Q4-1913 3B:1227). They had 2 sons, Percy Elwin (19-6-1914-to 1974) and Vincent Bernard Charles (30-1-1916 to 1985), both born in Bourne, Lincolnshire. They were at Bridge House, Dyke, nr. Bourne, Lincolnshire. |

He enlisted in Bourne, Lincolnshire.
The 1st/4th Battalion, judging by casualties recorded, were not in the thick of things at the end of April 1917. His Army records not being found, and dying of his wounds, it is impossible to say exactly when or where Charles was wounded. His unit was in the Lens/Loos area.
